Dalziel still bottom
Round-up
Dalziel Rugby Club fell to a narrow 28-20 defeat at Cambuslang, and remain bottom of West League 1.
The Motherwell side are still looking for a second win of the season.
Dalziel’s points came from tries by Andrew Bowles, Alistair Mckune and Fraser Skinner, with Andrew Glover adding a penalty and a conversion.
Uddingston consolidated second place in the West League Division 2 table after a comfortable 48-0 win at home to Bishopton.
The result leaves them three points behind leaders Lenzie and four ahead of third-placed Oban Lorne, but both rivals have a game in hand.
Uddingston made the breakthrough in 18 minutes when a line-out seven metres from the Bishopton line was secured and a driven maul saw Connor Mcmillan touch down. Callum Maxwell missed the conversion, but they led 5-0.
Three minutes later Maxwell broke through the Bishopton defence to dot down, with Lenny Allen converting for 12-0.
Uddingston notched their third try of the afternoon on the half-hour mark, when a long clearance kick was collected by Blane Anderson, who launched it downfield, chased it and got a boot to it, sending it over the try line. Kirk Tunnicliffe was first to react, with Allen again converting.
The hosts rounded off the half with a fourth try, and the bonus point, with Jamie Mcpherson giving them a 24-0 interval lead.
Bishopton came out fighting in the second half but couldn’t find a way through the Uddingston defence, and Clinton Boyd intercepted and raced upfield to touch down.
Uddingston were dominating phases of play and added two more tries through Donald Haldane and Ross Mcfadden, with Allen’s conversion putting them 41-0 ahead with 10 minutes left.
Allen scored the last try of the game, converting his own score.
Strathaven were left frustrated as opponents Helensburgh arrived at W3ST with no front row; a three-point sanction has been applied on them.
