Hartley will lead from top

Motherwell captain Peter Hartley says he’s ready to lead by example and turn around the club’s fortunes.

Manager Stephen Robinson was scathing in the aftermath of their 1-0 defeat at home to St Johnstone, saying the players must stand up to be counted.

With a trip to St Mirren last night (Wednesday) and a crucial clash at home to Dundee on Saturday, Hartley says the gaffer is spot-on.

He told Motherwell’s website:“we know what is at stake and that we need to be better. There have definitely been times when we have played well but perhaps not got the results, but now is the time for results to follow.

“These games are massive, of course they are. To be going up against two sides sitting below us in the table is incentive enough for us to go out there and do what we have to, and that’s get points on the board – it’s as simple as that.”

Hartley says nobody is hitting the panic button just yet and added:“it’s safe to say that we’re not a million miles away at the moment.

“We’ve come through a sticky patch of injuries, we’ve been unlucky at points, and I believe all it takes is a victory to spark us back into life.

“After the St Johnstone game the atmosphere in the dressing room wasn’t doom and gloom, there was a real sense of determination and anger with ourselves.”
