Santa Claus is coming to town

- Andrea Lambrou

Strathaven is looking forward to celebrating one of its biggest events of the year – when the annual Reindeer Day celebration comes to town.

Thousands of people will line the streets to welcome Santa, pulled by his team of guest reindeer which are visiting from the Cairngorm Reindeer Herd.

This year they will touch down at noon on Sunday, December 9 with local children invited to visit Santa’s Grotto in Alison Green and have the opportunity to get up close to the reindeer.

Father Christmas will also travel through the streets of Strathaven with a wonderful reindeer parade round the Common Green from 2pm.

And there will be an array of market stalls selling Christmas treats as well as some fun rides for the kids.

The event – organised by the team from Adam’s Community Trust with help from organisations around the town – will get underway at noon.

Folk can round off their Reindeer Day festivities by sitting back and enjoying some seasonal sounds from 7pm.

The Strathaven Choral Society will hold their annual Christmas concert A Spirit of Christmas in Strathaven Scout and Guide Hall, on Kirk Street, with Coalburn Silver Brass Band.

Tickets are priced at £10 and can be purchased from choir members or via www. strathavenchoral.com Doors 6.15pm. If you are interested in taking a stall on Reindeer Day or can help setting up and taking things down on the day, contact Roger Lee on 07736 633168.
