Families sought to host students

Youngsters will develop English skills

- Shirley Bartynek

Spanish students are set to visit Larkhall next summer.

And the team behind the visit are busy organising and selecting homes for the students to stay in during their visit.

The Spanish students will visit the town and have their own English lessons which will be held in the town’s The Lighthouse venue once again.

But the youngsters are in need of Homestay accommodation during their visit.

Organisers are keen to get families involved in the project.

Eve Malina, Homestay accommodation officer and teacher said: “We’re looking for more families to become host families.

“Homestay accommodation in Larkhall is needed to home Spanish students aged 12-17 for July 2019. Students will attend classes and activities most days from 9am-6pm. They will live in your home as part of the family, learning about Scottish culture while developing their English language skills.

Host families would be required to provide a warm, comfortable bedroom with clothes storage, a quiet area for studying, breakfast, packed lunch and evening meal.

She added: “Full support will be provided by myself and I will be on hand day and night.

“Anyone interested in being a host should get in touch for more information via Facebook at Talktalk Idiomas Scotland Homestay or by emailing talktalkidiomasscotland@ outlook.com.”

Ten students from Madrid and Toledo this summer found homes with families throughout Larkhall during the summer months in an effort to help develop their English skills.

The programme was arranged last year through Eve Malina of Larkhall and her friend Isabel Alcalde Nombela who runs Talktalk Idiomas which is a language academy in Madrid.
