Law athletes enjoy success

-

Law and District Amateur Athletics Club hosted their first national event at Lanark Race Course, with the Scottish National Short Course (Cross Country) Championships voted a tremendous success.

The club’s athletes were also amongst the medals at the event, which was attended by hundreds of athletes from all over Scotland, competing in events for under-15, under-17, senior or masters.

Short and fast, the course saw the largest field in the event’s 20-year history with more finishers than ever before in five of the six races – the exception being the under-17 women’s race.

The senior men’s race saw an increase from its previous record of 411 finishers to 470.

Law and District AAC had a large field of athletes taking part and many volunteers setting up the course early on Saturday morning, marshalling throughout the day, and then clearing the course in the late afternoon.

The club enjoyed success on the day, with medal winners in the under-15 boys’short course race as Donald Gilchrist, Oscar Logan and Christopher Barrett took the bronze team medal.

Donald and Christopher are from Lanark, while Oscar lives in Motherwell.

Darran Muir also won an individual medal, achieving bronze in the V45 race.

Law and District AAC are delighted that the event will return to Lanark in two years’time, with next year’s race in the east at Kirkcaldy.
