Acro-lutely fabulous start to the season

Hamilton Gymnastics Club’s Acro section has enjoyed a successful start to their competitio­n season.

The club have won a haul of medals from three of their first outings.

At the NDP tournament at Ravenscrai­g Regional Sports Facility in Motherwell in September, Emily Mcfadden and Rebecca Devine finished first in Grade 2 women’s pairs.

Aimee Paterson, Emma Mclaughlin and Christie Holmes also won gold in IDP women’s groups in both balance and dynamic routines.

The Middlesbro­ugh Invitation­al in October saw more places for the Hamilton groups. In the NDP tournament Grade 2 women’s pairs Emily Mcfadden and Rebecca Devine took gold, Alana Bradshaw and Sara Dickenson were second and Grace Cassidy and Kayla Mcneil came third.

In Grade 4 women’s pairs, Tess Burns and Amy Chisholm took the No.1 spot.

Beth Loughran, Rosie O’neil and Georgie Ross were second in Grade 4 women’s groups.

The Grade 5 women’s group of Rhea Scholey, Ava Murray and Megan Murphy were first in their balance routine.

In the IDP women’s groups competitio­n, Aimee Paterson, Emma Mclaughlin and Christie Holmes won gold in both balance and dynamic routines.

Ellie Burke, Orla Brown and Erin Kelly finished first in balance routine in the age 11-16 women’s groups, while Katie Nealy, Georgie Miller and Becky Deuchar were second.

The team then travelled to the north-east of England for the South Tyneside Internatio­nal Cup.

Aimee Paterson, Emma Mclaughlin and Christie Holmes won silver in IDP and Katy Andrew and Holly Dougan took bronze in the 11-16 group.

Acro coach Sarah Marshall said: “It has been a great start to the season for the girls. There are a lot of new partnershi­ps and new skills being performed.

“All of the gymnasts have worked extremely hard to get prepared for upcoming competitio­ns, and I am really proud of how they have started out this year.

“I am looking forward to the rest of the season.

“We have lots coming up before Christmas and are travelling to Stoke in November for the Pat Wade Classic and competing at the Jumblies at Ravenscrai­g in December.

“We are all looking forward to it and I am sure the gymnasts will be fantastic.”
