Jerseys are up for grabs

-

Martin Canning has warned his Accies squad that jerseys are very much up for grabs following their 4-0 thrashing against St Johnstone.

The Hamilton gaffer will prepare his squad for the visit of champions Celtic on November 24 and says he’s looking for a reaction from every single player.

Canning will also make them watch the game back to see exactly where they went wrong as Saints ran rampant.

He said:“the jerseys will be up for grabs again. We made a couple of changes, enforced on us with Mickel Miller being suspended and James Keatings being ill, we brought Darian Mackinnon in for Tom Taiwo.

“I think it’s just a case of getting back to working hard, putting our heads down, get it out of our system.

“We know we can improve but to be honest, if you don’t compete it’s difficult to improve.

“It’s basics – it’s our defenders dealing with the first ball and dealing with their strikers, which we didn’t do.

“Our strikers taking in the first ball up, which we didn’t do; the middle of the park winning second balls, which we didn’t do. It’s the basics of the game that we haven’t done well.

“These things are what give you the platform to win games.

“We didn’t give ourselves a chance, right from the start.

“I don’t think St Johnstone had any better quality coming up than we did, they just worked harder.”
