PLAY A PART IN OUR TOY APPEAL

Let’s break last year’s donation total

Give underprivileged kids a special Christmas

Donations for our annual Advertiser Christmas Toy Appeal for the county’s underprivileged children have already started to arrive – but lots more are still needed.

The gifts have been trickling in since midoctober and include cars, games, books, baby dolls, action figures, baby rattles and more.

But in order to smash our record from last year, when thousands of toys and more than £500 in cash were kindly donated, we need so much more help and fast!

All we ask is that members of the public or any local clubs, groups or organisations donate new toys, books and games, winter woollies, fragrance or make up sets, gift vouchers or donations of cash to the cause. We are also appealing for Lanarkshire’s businesses to get behind us by asking your members of staff if they can help with a little donation – whether it be a stocking filler or pocket money toy, or an unwanted new unused toy from your home. Gifts are required for children from newborn t o 16-yearsold and can also include new clothes. We also require wrapping paper, Sellotape and batteries for the toys. Every donation, no matter how big or small, is warmly welcomed – and will be appreciated by the county’s needy youngsters. For the last three years we have worked with our friends at the Salvation Army Hamilton Branch, who kindly act as a drop off point, as well as help with the mammoth task of organising, sorting and distributing the goodies to South Lanarkshire Council‘s social work team by December 21 to ensure the children receive their gifts on Christmas Day!

Advertiser reporter Leona Greenan, who co-ordinates the appeal said: “Previous appeals have benefited more than 800 county children with gifts of toys, gift vouchers and treats galore, all gifted by generous Advertiser readers.

“If you would like to help the appeal, you can hand in your donation to the Advertiser Office, Unit 34, Brandon House, Brandon Street, Hamilton. The office is open on weekdays between 9am and 1pm.

“You can also contact our reporter Leona Greenan for more information or to register your interest in donating, by emailing her at leona. greenan@reachplc.com or by calling her on 01698 205179 (Monday to Wednesday).

“If you are in the Larkhall and surronding area we have a drop off point also at the wonderful Happy Feet Nursery on Claude Street.

“Or hand your gifts into the Salvation Army, Burnblea Street, Hamilton on weekdays from 10am to 12pm.”
