It was another busy week on the Hamilton Advertiser’s Facebook page.

Many of our readers commented on our story about plans to install a self-service laundrette at a petrol station in Larkhall.

Several residents have expressed their anger about this and nine letters of objection were received by South Lanarkshire Council after retrospective planning permission was sought for the facility at the Shell Petrol Station at 1 Machan Road by applicant Photo-me International Plc.

Evonne Cunningham Moffat said: “They seem to be putting them everywhere now!”

Yvonne Pitcairn commented: “No way would I use them. Imagine going away and someone stealing your clothes.”

Carol Seymour said:“never... it will all come out in the washing!”

Adam Moir wrote:“that machine was in Coatbridge but was removed as it was not used.”

Lynsey Wilson commented:“now there is no excuse for me not to have the washing done!”

Lisa-dian De Barros said:“get the husband down with a car full!”

Jim Stillie wrote:“christmas has come early!”

Zoe Lawrence Craw said:“bring back the cashline — we need that more.”

Another story many of our readers commented on was about Hamilton District Foodbank having to give out more than 3000 emergency food supply packs in the town in just six months.

Hamilton District Foodbank handed out 3177 three-day emergency supplies to desperate locals between April 1 and September 30 this year.

Claireyoung said:“isobel and her amazing volunteers and Hamilton District Foodbank provide a fantastic service to those in the community most in need all year round.

“No-one knows what tomorrow may bring so please, if you can, donate something, however small, as it does make a huge difference. If you are in the position to do so please consider at this time of year a reverse advent box, where for every day of advent you place an item in the box from your cupboard. It is an amazing thing to get the kids involved in.

“We currently have over 300 boxes going out to people in the local community to fill and return to be donated to the foodbank. Last year, we put out 150 and donated over 2000kg, so this year we are hoping for more.”
