Dad’s winter wonderland

Amazing display for charity

- Kirsten Mcstay

Hundreds gathered at a Hamilton house on Tuesday evening to watch a Christmas charity light switch-on.

Iain Fleming spent four weeks decorating his house in thousands of festive lights to raise money for cancer care charity the Beatson.

And the dad-of-three invited the public to his home on Forth Terrace to watch the lights dazzle for the first time.

But is wasn’t just the lights that blew everyone away – Iain also had fake snow, Christmas songs and a few special guests.

X Factor runner-up Nicky Mcdonald went along to sing a few songs, charity mascot Bella Beatson was also loving the evening and Santa Claus even stopped by to say hello!

Nicky sang from an upstairs bedroom window to the crowd, and said: “This is probably the weirdest thing I’ve ever done – sing out someone’s bedroom window, who I’ve only met about 20 minutes ago!”

“Everyone give it up for Iain for this massive display for a great charity.”

And he joked: “And good luck with his lecky bill at the end of the month because I’ll not be paying it!”

And the Hamilton Advertiser were there on the night too, broadcasting the action live on Facebook. Over 12,000 people tuned in to watch the winter wonderland.

Iain said he was delighted with the turnout at his first year in Hamilton, having moved to the town recently from Newmains.

He said: “The total from the night was £625. Totally overwhelmed by the turnout!

“Thank you to the Hamilton Advertiser for coming along. The Facebook live was amazing. I can’t stop watching it!”
