£1m Lotto ticket goes unclaimed

- Staff reporter

Time ran out this week for whoever had the £1m unclaimed Lotto prize in South Lanarkshire.

Monday’s deadline came and went, so the money, plus the interest it earned, has gone to help National Lottery-funded projects across the UK.

People only have 180 days to claim their prizes and no-one came forward with the winning ticket for the £1,000,000 Millionaire Raffle from May 30.

Andy Carter, senior winners’advisor at The National Lottery, said: “Unfortunately, I can confirm that the ticket-holder did not come forward within the deadline to claim their prize and has now sadly missed out on this substantial amount of money.

“To avoid this unfortunate situation happening again, I would urge all National Lottery players to check their tickets on a regular basis.

“We tried very hard to find the ticket-holder and it’s a real shame that they have missed out, but there is still one winner – the nation. This money, and all the interest earned over the 180 days, will now go to benefit projects, like New Lanark World Heritage Site, all over the UK funded by The National Lottery.”

Of the near 3000 South Lanarkshire beneficiaries to have received National Lottery funding, one – New Lanark World Heritage Site – has benefited from £6.5M of funding from The National Lottery which is helping to completely restore the important 18th century mill village, designated a UNESCO World Heritage site.
