Purr-fect festive fun with Kittens

- Staff reporter

The festive season has well and truly begun in Hamilton with the lighting up of the town centre’s Christmas lights.

And the crowds who gathered to cheer the big switch-on were made to feel ‘Whole Again’ with a special performance by girl band Atomic Kitten.

Stars Liz Mcclarnon and Natasha Hamilton thrilled the audience as part of an afternoon of festive fun on Saturday before joining Provost Ian Mcallan, Santa, and other performers on stage for the big moment when the Christmas decorations blazed with colour.

Helping with the entertainment on the day were MC Gav as well as the Valerie Brown School of Dance, Dance Central with Elaine Wedlock and Sister Catherine on behalf of St Andrew’s Hospice.

Across the town centre, shoppers found more festive fun including street theatre performers, Paw Patrol characters, superheroes, a balloon artist, a brass band, face painters and a Christmas market.

Provost Mcallan said: “Christmas is such a magical time for all ages and so much of the enjoyment is in the build-up and the atmosphere created by everywhere looking so festive.

“The town centre Christmas lights are such a great part of that festive spirit and it was a great moment to see them burst into life.

“The whole afternoon was such great fun and the performers were all so wonderful – and it was amazing to have a band of the status of Atomic Kitten to ensure it all went with the sparkle of star quality.

“It was wonderful to see all the happy faces enjoying the day – may that happiness continue in great style over the next few weeks!”
