‘Drunk’ Dons fan threw glass at cop shop after dismal result

- Court reporter

A‘drunk’aberdeen fan smashed a police station window after his team’s dismal defeat on Saturday.

Kyle Stenhouse was fuming after watching the Dons lose 3-0 to Motherwell in their Scottish Premiership clash at Fir Park.

And he was so mad at the result that he threw the tumbler he had been drinking from at a window of Motherwell police station which is a five-minute walk from the stadium.

It shattered the glass of the duty sergeant’s room, but luckily no one was injured.

Stenhouse (23), of Leslie Crescent, Westhill, Aberdeen, was fined £550 when he appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week.

He admitted culpably and recklessly smashing the window, to the danger of two officers who had been working close to the window.

A second charge alleging that Stenhouse had resisted arrest by struggling with officers and lashing out with his arms and legs was dropped.

The court heard that Stenhouse was in a group of Dons supporters making their way past the police station towards Motherwell town centre after the match.

Defence agent Jackson Bateman blamed drink and the visitors’poor performance on the pitch for his client’s behaviour.

He told the court that his client wished to apologise for what he had done.

Mr Bateman added:“he was so drunk that he didn’t realise the building was the police station. “He thought it was a pub he’d been in.” Sheriff Douglas Brown was told that Stenhouse, a fitter, has previous convictions for threatening behaviour and being concerned in the supply of ecstasy.

The sheriff fined him £550, reduced from £800 because of his early guilty plea, and ordered him to pay at £75 per month.
