Milton view Sold down the Brexit river

-

Dear Editor What a mess this Conservative Government has got us into –two years negotiating Brexit and then coming back with a deal which has sold us down the line.

We will still be paying vast amounts of money to the EU but, in return, having no say in what goes on within.

Once again they have betrayed our fishing industry – it does not protect jobs in our country and conditions we have held over the years.

The Prime Minister has the audacity to send out letters to voters, continuously on radio and TV asking us to support her debacle of a deal. Does she forget since coming to power she has supported zero hour contracts, turned a blind eye to food banks, allowed people with serious illnesses to be signed fit for work, contrary against what there own general practitioner has advised against?

We are an industrious nation leading in many manufacturing industries, especially engineering. There are many James Watts, Alexander Flemings, Alexander Graham Bells alive here in our country who are willing and able to make our country great without having to rely on people we have helped over the decades who now seem to want us to collapse like a pack of cards.

I voted to leave, the country voted to leave so let’s leave and let’s be great again running our own affairs

I write this letter prior to the vote to be taken in Parliament but urge our politicians to reject the so called deal.

Gavin Mcvie Via email It’s that time of year again when South Lanarkshire Council tell us the only thing they are certain of is that there will be more cuts (Council in £18m cuts proposals).

Clearly the millions upon millions of pounds which have been saved over the years has not been enough.

It is thoroughly depressing and I do hope that children, the elderly and those most vulnerable are protected as much as possible from whatever savings ideas are planned.

As for the proposed three per cent rise in council tax? The council needs to know we don’t all have deep pockets.

Voter Via email Dear Editor Finally! A withdrawal agreement over Brexit; not a trade deal – a withdrawal one.

And that’s a crucial point as when we leave on March 29, 2019, and enter a 21-month transition period, it gives business and services time to prepare so no more excuses.

Now is the time to get behind the Prime Minister and get this deal done in what has been a long, drawn-out process to try and undo 46 years of rules and regulations.

The challenge to politicians of all parties is to act in the nation’s best interest. Who will do this?

We wait and see – democracy must win at the end of the day so enough of this ‘People’s Vote’ nonsense and let’s give the PM credit.

Despite being attacked from the Brexiteers on one side and ‘remoaners’ on the other, she has stuck at it and deserves our thanks for doing that.
