Hamilton Gymnastics Club enjoy phenomenal week
Talented artistic gymnasts made their mark representing Scotland in national and international competitions this month, in what was one of the most successful weeks in Hamilton Gymnastics Club’s history.
To top off some great results on the competition floor, club men’s coach Shona Grigor also picked up the Scottish Gymnastics Young Coach of the Year Award.
Gymnasts from the men’s and women’s artistic sections pulled on blue and white Scotland uniforms as they headed into competition in England and France.
At the Birmingham GMAC, the national grade finals saw gymnasts compete in Scotland teams across the age groups.
Toby Adam and Riley Stoddart put on great performances representing Scotland for the first time in Grade 1.
Casey Flynn helped his Grade 3 team finish fourth.
Daniel Sabba had a great competition and also finished fourth with his Grade 5 team.
Caiden-jay Malone contributed some great scores to his Grade 2 team.
Medals were won by two Hamilton men’s gymnasts.
In Grade 2, Cameron Falconer finished second in the UK in the individual all-round competition.
Grade 4 competitor Andrew Dickie won bronze in the team event, finishing ninth in the all-round competition.
Hamilton men’s coach Shona Grigor said:“coach Douglas Ross and I were so proud of the boys and are looking forward to even greater things in the coming year.”
Shona, who acted as coach for Team Scotland at the British finals, was awarded one of the most prestigious accolades at the Scottish Gymnastics awards.
Head coach Wendy Lucas said: “Shona has helped us to grow Hamilton Gymnastics Club into the biggest club in Scotland and has been instrumental in making our club great. We are very proud of her and expect even bigger things from her in the future.”
The following weekend saw women’s artistic gymnast Eilidh Gorrell take part in the Sandra Clarke Invitational in Nottingham.
Eilidh was part of a six-strong Scotland squad made up of gymnasts from the National Performance programme.
Scotland finished second, securing Eilidh her first international medal.
Kennedi Foster also won her first international medal, a silver on floor at the Combs la Ville International in Paris.
Fellow head coach Ruth Gibson said: “To see our club members at such a high level in such a short period of time is phenomenal. These gymnasts are an inspiration to the rest of the club.”
