Danny’s double delight

-

Danny Johnston was the hero as Motherwell racked up a comfortable 3-0 win over Aberdeen at Fir Park on Saturday.

The striker bagged his first in 25 minutes when Niall Mcginn’s illadvised pass to Shay Logan was pounced upon by Johnstone, who beat the defender, drew keeper Joe Lewis, and slotted into the net.

Motherwell doubled their lead five minutes later when Johnston headed Gael Bigirimana’s corner past Lewis.

Max Lowe’s drive was well saved by stand-in keeper Mark Gillespie.

But Motherwell sealed the points when Lewis Ferguson’s attempted clearance cannoned off Andy Considine and into the path of David Turnbull, who smashed it into the net.

Delighted Johnston said:“it was a perfect response, really, following the Rangers defeat.

“The first one was a Christmas present really, from the defenders.

“I still had a lot to do, waiting for the defender to gamble, but got that little chance to cut back inside and then finish it off.

“The second one I got inside the box and I’m confident that if I get the ball I’ll score the goals, and I did.”

Johnston says he has been putting in a shift to get his chance.

“A lot goes on behind the scenes,”he said.“i’ve been working hard, and been patient, waiting for my chance again, and I’ve taken it.”
