The January meeting of the Larkhall Professional and Businessmen’s Club was the annual Burns’supper, opened by President Cameron Robbie.

It was another excellent evening and the speakers excelled themselves.

The evening started with a selection of Scottish and Burns songs sung by the amazing Larkhall Academy choir .

The haggis was piped in by Greg Stewart and addressed by Archie Gilbert.

Grace was offered by Graeme Mcdonald and dinner was served .

Proceedings got underway with The Immortal Memory given by Douglas Cook, while the Toast to the Lassies was given in hilarious style by J Carruthers, followed by an equally funny reply by A Murray.

Archie Gilbert has become a regular with the club and he excelled himself with his rendition of Tam O’shanter – so much so that he received a standing ovation for his effort.

Music was supplied by The John Carmichael Duo or, as they call themselves, The Jimmy Shand Band.

The Larkhall Professional And Businessmen’s Club thanked all who attended .

A spokesperson for the club said:“This is the start of another new year and the club look forward to another year collaborating with Larkhall Academy, helping them with various projects especially the arts department. The next meeting will have a familiar face to the club, Iain Gordon. At this stage it is not known if he will talk of his life in the police or of his life in general.

“The next club meeting will be in the Radstone Hotel on Monday, February 11, at 6.45pm.”
