Cancer survivor all set for hill climbs

-

A Hamilton cancer survivor has set himself a 52-week challenge to mark his 52nd birthday.

From the start of the year, Kenneth Muir, owner of Body Morph Fitness, will attempt to trek or run Tinto Hill in Lanarkshire once a week with an average target time of 60 minutes – 52 climbs within 52 hours within 52 weeks – to raise money for the Beatson Cancer Charity.

This challenge follows on from a whirlwind 24-hour trip to Spain to climb 4000ft mountain La Concha last year, also in aid of the charity.

Kenneth, who turns 52 in September, likes to set himself new and original challenges to raise money and give back.

His personal target for this one is to get up and down Tinto in 52 minutes before his birthday.

Having previously battled cancer himself, Kenneth said: “I thought this would be another good challenge to raise awareness and I think it allows others to get involved, either to support or to do their own challenge.

“It would also be nice to take someone up the hill at some point who has been on their own cancer journey and is feeling well enough to participate.”

Kenneth is welcoming anyone who wants to get involved either by joining him one week for the hill climb or by donating through his Just Giving page.

He and the team have already raised an incredible £15,713 since last year, which will allow the charity to continue investing in scientific research, funded posts and patient and care services.

Maisie Mccormick, Beatson Cancer Charity’s community fundraising manager, said: “Kenneth and the team are great at coming up with these unique challenges and ways to fundraise.

“Beatson Cancer Charity is so grateful to the Body Morph team for their continued support and dedication and we wish Kenneth the best of luck for this ambitious 52-week challenge, which I’m sure he’ll complete no problem!

“Team Beatson is hoping Kenneth at some point too.”

Body Morph Fitness also provides gentle movement classes at Beatson Cancer Charity’s Wellbeing Centre every Thursday at 11am.
