A Motherwell student is the star of a new marketing campaign for New College Lanarkshire.

Patryk Brodacki will feature on billboards, posters, course guides and the website homepage as part of a latest recruitment drive.

The 21-year-old, who is a student of HND Professional Cookery at the Motherwell campus, has set his sights on a job at Gleneagles after winning a scholarship with the worldfamous Perthshire resort.

Patryk said: “Winning a scholarship at the Gleneagles Hotel has been the highpoint of everything that I’ve done so far.

“I’ve been in every kitchen and ate the food, cooked the food – I’ve done so much. I’ve got to know how the hotel works really well. They’ve already offered me a job after I finish college.

“I also did a HIT Scotland pastry masterclass there. We went for the weekend, stayed in the hotel and had two days of practical pastry sessions with the executive head chef of Gleneagles.”

It was watching TV celebrity chefs such as Gordon Ramsay that inspired Patryk to pursue a career in hospitality after leaving school.

In his four years as a student at the college, he has achieved NC Professional Cookery Silver, NC Professional Cookery Gold and HNC Professional Cookery.

He became the second winner of the Gibby Culinary Scholarship in 2018, which was established to honour the memory of Gleneagles’ executive head chef Alan Gibb, who passed away suddenly in 2016.

Patryk (pictured) added: “My speed and general knowledge in the kitchen has increased since being a student at New College Lanarkshire. I wasn’t very good at basic cooking skills before, but being a student here has definitely developed my skillset as a whole.

“I’ve learned that you can learn something from everybody, whether that’s working in a small restaurant in Wishaw or in Gleneagles. You should always take notes and listen carefully.

“In the future I’d like to travel around the world as much as possible and the scholarship with Gleneagles will support me in doing that.”
