Experience is key and Meenagh spent

Hamilton’s new developmen­t officer doesn’t just talk a good game – he brings to the job a wealth of experience, despite his relatively tender years.

Steven went into the industry straight from school and is highly qualified. He has worked in a number of roles that have led up to the post at Laigh Bent, following Al Falconer’s departure to Scottish Rugby.

He said:“i was with Glasgow City Council for four years and a year-and-ahalf with Cambuslang before that.

“In the city I worked with Glasgow Life and Glasgow Sport as an area developmen­t officer, so I started working out of the west end of Glasgow with Hillhead/jordanhill, which has been the feeder club I worked with.

“That was a new challenge for me, because I grew up on the south side of Glasgow, which is very footballor­ientated. I discovered rugby with my older brother, went to secondary school and it almost went full circle because it was a deal that got him into rugby, and now I’m here.

“I worked in Cambuslang where rugby was happening but it wasn’t a big rugby area. If you go into the west end you’re bumping into Glasgow Warriors every day.

“It’s a really different feeling going into schools and there are kids there wearing Warriors jumpers and not Rangers and Celtic tops back to front. It was really good in that sense because there was already a buy-in. At the same time the challenge out there are the facilities.

“That was something that helped me really work at how you can make rugby happen because they didn’t have three big pitches like they have at Hamilton. It
