All his time honing his craft in Glasgow

was more of a leisure there.

“I then swapped to the south side to work with Cartha Queen’s Park and the schools out there.

“I think I probably made my biggest mark there. I really enjoyed working with the schools and with Cartha being the club I grew up playing in, that made it quite interesting working with these guys.

“I was working with kids who had similar experiences of growing up. I know the challenge that exists where everybody wants to play football but there are a few kids who want to play rugby.

“I managed to get a few schools up and running that weren’t traditional rugby schools. Playing rugby with teachers who spent their whole life playing football but now have that love for rugby is just as important.”

Steven added:“that post is now vacant in the city, but the rugby is continuing and for me that’s my biggest achievement there – that it hasn’t stopped because I have left.

“The city was good, obviously working with a business like Glasgow Sport you’re not just doing rugby but you’re seeing the European Championships, you’re seeing every other sport and what they’re doing, and you have so many resources that you can pull from, which is excellent.

“But I wanted to be back at a club. I wanted to get fully ingrained within a club where you’re dealing with everyone and I genuinely like to work with people.

“I got plenty of experience of seeing how a local authority runs but as a development officer you’re seeing everyone and you’re really involved.”
