After a very challenging week, with the equine flu issues, it is a relief to see racing get back to some sort of normality.

This week’s nap is the aptly named Waiting Patiently, who runs in Saturday’s 3.35 at Ascot.

He lost his unbeaten record over fences in December, when he was badly hampered by another horse, which cost him any chance in the race.

Another horse which was unlucky last time out was Daklondike, and he is this week’s each-way selection in Saturday’s 3.15 at Haydock.

John Gosden has done extremely well in Novice Stakes races on the all-weather this winter. His filly, Vegatina, was second last time out, and can go one better in Friday’s 5.45 at Newcastle.

Equine influenza, a highlyinfectious disease, was detected last week and horseracing cancelled.

The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) announced a risk-managed return to racing was to take place from last night (Wednesday).

After consultation with its veterinary committee, and based on latest tests conducted by the Animal Health Trust, the BHA’S chief regulatory officer, Brant Dunshea, confirmed that racing could resume, but only with strict biosecurity controls in place.

The decision to return in a controlled, risk-managed manner, was unanimously supported by the industry veterinary committee.
