ADAM AIMS FOR FAME

Win could send Hamilton man to WWE stardom

-

A Hamilton wrestler who has broken both his heels intends to grab an opportunity this month that could lead to stardom in the ring.

Adam Kuczwalski will take part in Insane Wrestling Championship’s ‘Square Go’ event at Glasgow’s SWG3 on Sunday, February 24, which will see 30 entrants battle it out – with five random weapons involved – and the winner will be granted a match for the ICW World Heavyweight Championship at a time of their choosing, within the next 12 months.

Nicknamed ‘Krobar’, the 34-year-old floor fitter from Fairhill is keen to take the top prize and really make a name for himself.

One thing Adam is keen to stress is that wrestling at his level isn’t fake, as his injuries would testify.

He said: “People’s perceptions or wrestling is that it’s fake but certainly in ICW, when somebody hits you they hit you, though it’s not a full-blown hit or it would be MMA.

“They’re still making contact, there is still that area for injury. Getting slammed on the ring, even run on the ropes, you can get rope burns or seized muscles; I’ve been knocked out a couple of times, just catching a stray boot to the head, I’ve fell 12-15 feet out of a ring, broke both my heels, so mobility was pretty restricted for a good few years. It certainly has its moments between injuries and travelling but it’s brilliant.”

On the event, Adam said: “It’s a Royal Rumble with a twist; ICW caters more towards the over-18s, so it’s wrestling with a Scottish twist. One of the stipulations of the Square Go is that you have 30 entrants and five of them can have weapons, but they are totally random, so one of them could come out with an inflatable parrot or a sheep, that’s how wacky and entertaining wrestling is.”

The prize from the Square Go is pretty big and could even be life-changing.

Adam said: “The winner gets a contract for a world heavyweight championship match, to cash in at any time of their choosing, within 365 days. That’s a pretty big deal – guys like Drew Mcintyre, who is in WWE now, was the guy who made it a world championship, he travelled the globe. Wolfgang is also in WWE, he has held it, and Lionheart is the current champion, so it has a huge amount of prestige.

“It would certainly rocket-strap you to main event status and world event status.

“It would mean everything to me; you just couldn’t put it into words, and if it does happen I can’t predict my reaction.”
