ON THE BEAT Appeal over thefts from two homes

- with Sergeant Bob Chalmers

At around 5.40am on Tuesday, June 25, the residents of a house in Kylepark Drive, Uddingston, were awakened by the sound of smashing glass and a bang downstairs in their property.

On looking outside, they saw both their vehicles being driven off in the direction of Uddingston Main Street and out of sight.

Their door window had been smashed and both sets of car keys had been taken. The cars are a silver Audi A3 and a grey Peugot 3008. An enquiry was made at the scene and a silver Citroen Berlingo van may or may not be linked to this theft. If anyone has heard or seen anything matching these vehicle descriptions, please contact police on 101.

Slightly earlier on the same night, at around 2.15am a white Mercedes B class was discovered well ablaze on Greyfriars Road, Uddingston, just off the Blantyre Farm Road.

The fire service extinguished the blaze, however no one was found near the scene. Likewise if anyone seen this vehicle being driven nearby, or anyone walking along Blantyre Farm Road, please contact police on 101 as the vehicle was deliberately set on fire.

Between 1.30am and 2.20am on June 24, a resident of Neilsland Road in Hamilton discovered that someone had tried to steal his white Ford Transit Custom.

The offenders had tried to remove the tracker from the van and may be linked to males seen nearby in a black people carrier.

Overnight into June 24 in Hillview Drive, Blantyre, registration plates were stolen from a white Ford Transit Custom. This is a low-value theft, however they are generally placed onto stolen vehicles to commit further crime, giving the appearance that the vehicle is genuine.

There were two crimes of note this week in Ferniegair. Sometime between 2pm and 10pm on Saturday, June 22, elderly residents of Worrall Gardens, Carlisle Road, discovered on returning home that the front door to their property had been forced and someone had entered their house, stealing cash. Fortunately they were not at home while this crime happened.

Then at 9.15pm on Sunday, June 23, one of their elderly neighbours reported to police that while she was in her living room, she observed two males aged around 19 walk across her front garden and approach the front door. As she stood up to check, the two males sprinted off in the direction of the Chatelherault Inn.

The males in the second incident are described as slim, short hair wearing white t-shirts with red logos and either white shorts or joggers. Both victims are elderly and we are very keen to detect the persons responsible to reassure the residents.
