Ceiling issue closes main Post Office
Hamilton town centre’s main Post Office branch will be closed for several weeks, following reports of a “structural issue” with the ceiling.
The premises in Cadzow Street, which have a Mccoll’s store and Post Office within, are closed and shuttered, with a handwritten sign stating: ‘Shop and Post Office closed till further notice due to a structural issue. Sorry for any inconvenience’.
It is believed the structural problem has existed since last Friday.
A Post Office spokesperson confirmed the closure and said a structural assessment is to be carried out before they can take matters any further.
They directed customers to their branch at 97-99 Almada Street, Hamilton, or the Muir Street branch in Motherwell.
The spokesperson said: “The building, which we do not own, has had a structural issue with the roof/ceiling and therefore remains closed while the matter is assessed by structural engineers.
“We apologise to customers in Hamilton for the sudden temporary closure of the Post Office at 23-25 Cadzow Street.
“This is due to a structural issue with the premises.
“The safety of customers is of paramount importance to the Post Office, therefore, whilst the repair work is assessed, the branch will remain temporarily closed.
“During this temporary closure, customers can access Post Office services from any convenient branch, including 97-99 Almada Street, Hamilton, and 52-54 Muir Street, Motherwell.”
A spokesperson for Mccoll’s Retail Group said: “Our store at Cadzow Street in Hamilton is currently closed while we conduct necessary repairs over the coming weeks.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused, and appreciate the patience of our customers and staff during this time.
“Should customers require postal services, our nearest store is located at 97-99 Almada Street.”
