Broadband boost for Hamilton
More fast broadband is available in Hamilton and Larkhall – thanks to Digital Scotland.
Households and businesses across South Lanarkshire can now upgrade to faster fibre broadband through the £442million Digital Scotland Superfast Broadband (DSSB )rollout.
Fibre broadband is now available throughout Hamilton, Larkhall, Auchengray, Biggar, Carnwarth and Carstairs.
It’s the first time the programme has built full fibre broadband in parts of Carnwath and Carstairs.
They are among more than 32,800 homes and businesses across South Lanarkshire which are now able to connect to the Digital Scotland network.
Research has suggested that every public pound invested in fibre broadband in Scotland is delivering almost £12 of benefits to the Scottish economy.
The independent report commissioned by DSSB estimates the total benefit from investment as £2.76 billion over 15 years.
Chair of South Lanarkshire Council’s Community and Enterprise Resources Committee, Councillor John Anderson, said:“large numbers of homes and businesses can now upgrade via the Digital Scotland Superfast Broadband programme, providing access to faster connections that are crucial for growing our rural economy and enhancing the lives and lifestyles of our residents.
“Fast, reliable broadband connectivity is vital for people to work, learn, play and thrive.
“That applies to rural areas every bit as much as it does to those in our larger towns.”
