Pupils can help others, says MP

-

Children in Stonehouse will be given the chance to help those less fortunate than themselves when the new term starts back.

Dr Lisa Cameron, MP, has championed the‘send My Friend to School’campaign, which is supported by groups including Christian Aid, Leonard Cheshire and Save the Children.

She will send packs to schools in the area so that pupils can learn about their peers in developing countries, and their important journey to accessing education.

Dr Cameron said:“education is a basic human right and the 2019 campaign is about unlocking everyone’s potential.

“Too many young people, especially girls and disabled children, still have no access to school within developing countries.

“Education is absolutely everything and can help turn young people’s lives and chances around. It is clearly vital that we support the ‘Send My Friend to School’ campaign.

The campaign believes that schools should be safe havens for children.

But, unfortunately, for millions of children around the world, school can be a place of danger, with 246 million children experiencing violence at school every year.

That’s why over 175,000 young people across the UK have been taking part in Send My Friend to School’s campaign to Make Schools Safe.

They have been creating eye-catching paper safety signs for their MPS, to send a sign to the Government that schools must be safe for every child.

All schools are invited to get involved with the Send My Friend campaign.
