Medals on three fronts for swimmers

-

Lanark Amateur Swimming Club swimmers were out in force recently, with 35 members competing at three different venues on the same day.

Events the swimmers took part in were the Midlands District Open Water Championships at Monikie in Dundee, the Larkhall Avondale ASC Meet and the Summer Meet at Musselburgh.

First up were the open water swimmers at Monikie, with Justin Bone winning the 11/12 2km title, following on from his 1km success at the East District Lochore Meadows event.

Millie Mcarthur and Euan Mcleod won their 2km events in the 13/14 year age group, and there was a bronze medal for Abbigail Mcarthur in the 5km championships.

At Larkhall, 16 swimmers represented the club. Cameron Bruce, Ross Carswell, Ellarose Stewart and Mia Rae all won events, and other top-three finishes went to Abbie Barnstaple, Helena Ramage, Niamh Jeffrey and Connor Fallon.

Medals for fourth to sixth place were awarded to Katie Towers, Chelsea Millward, Ian Henderson and Emma Mccafferty.

News of success from Larkhall and Monikie spread to Mussselburgh, and the 14 young swimmers were determined to get in on the medal action.

Evi Mackie became the fastest 10-year-old girl in the club’s history over the 50m butterfly, winning the event in a time of 37.51 seconds.

Other medallists were Robbie Mcdairmant, Erin Lammie, Jessica Pratt, Malcolm Ormerod and Alistair Mcdairmant and Ailishia Forgie in the relay.

Silver/bronze medallists were Charlie Barnstaple, Calum Macdonald and Ryan Allan, with fourth to sixth place pennants won by Orlaith Jeffrey.

At the end of a very busy but successful day, coach Karen Kelly said:“i was at Musselburgh with the eight to 11-year-olds and was delighted to hear the news filtering through from the other two venues.

“It is the first time in my 46 years with the club that I can recall us competing on three fronts in the one day. Logistically it was very challenging, but ultimately very rewarding.”
