As 70 jobs go
Eric Foy, local PACE chairman, said: “A programme of support has been provided to Signify by our Lanarkshire partnership.
“The team is working with all partners to deliver employability support.
“Presentations have been delivered to employees by PACE partners including SDS, DWP, South Lanarkshire Council, Business Gateway, Citizens Advice and South Lanarkshire College.”
The organisation say that a number of Signify employees have also attended CV workshops and received one-to-one careers advice and support.
Mr Foy added: “Feedback from employees about these services has been very positive and the PACE team will continue to offer further tailored support to each of the employees affected as they prepare for the business closure in November.”
Hamilton South Councillor John Ross, Leader of South Lanarkshire Council, said: “Today’s announcement that the factory in Hamilton’s Wellhall Road is to close with the loss of 70 jobs is disappointing for the town, and for South Lanarkshire.
“Through our discussions with Signify we understand that the company has, in recent months, set up training opportunities in a variety of skills and trades for employees.
“In addition, Scottish Enterprise’s PACE team has been working with the staff, since they were told of the impending closure in September last year, also with a focus on retraining.
“Our own economic development team is helping other tenants on the site to find alternative premises within South Lanarkshire in a bid to retain as many local jobs as possible.
“The company has been a part of the fabric of Hamilton for decades, and it saddens me that the ‘Philips factory’ is to close its doors.”
