But it’s important to recognise the things that go right too, and all the positives that come with being a family with a disabled child.

“I was touched to learn about Naomi’s story and the bravery she showed and the wonderful reaction she had from her teachers and classmates.”

Naomi was due to attend the special awards ceremony, hosted by Radio 4 Woman’s Hour presenter Jane Garvey, in Westminster this week but due to recent developments in her twin brother’s medical condition, the family were unable to travel to the event.

“It was such a shame Naomi couldn’t attend as she was so excited about making it to the final,” said Miriam.

“But it just wasn’t possible under the circumstances.”

The youngster has featured in the Advertiser previously when she wrote a letter to South Lanarkshire Council asking for a swing for disabled people to be erected in Bothwell Road playpark.

And the school girl also featured in a list of 30 under 30 inspiring women that was compiled by the YWCA. Two Hamilton women who will zipslide from 150ft above the River Clyde for charity have organised a fundraiser to swell the coffers.

Claire Johnson and Kerryanne Kirkwood are raising cash for Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus after Claire’s son Darryl was diagnosed with the lifelong illness.

And now the two have also organised a charity fundraiser for the charity.

The fun day will be held in the car park of St Peter’s Church, Laighstonhall, on Friday, July 19, from 1pm until 5pm.

Admission is £3 for children and a little donation from the adults would be welcome.

Young boxer Chloe Bodwick is coming along to play games with the kids, and there will also be beautiful unicorns to have a ride on as well.

Everything – including bouncy castle, fairground rides, face painting, Mr Chuckle’s show and meetand-greets with Spider-man and Beauty and the Beast is free after admission has been paid.
