Blackpool trip was a real pleasure for Taylor kids

- ROBERT MITCHELL

Youngsters from Taylor High are used to towering achievements – especially the annual trip to Blackpool.

A large party of pupils and staff enjoyed heading south to the Pleasure Beach on Tuesday, June 25.

A school spokesperson said: “Everyone had a fantastic time; the thrills of roller-coasters, getting soaked on the water rides and becoming bamboozled in the House of Illusions – all in the space of a day.

“Once again, those taking part have many happy memories of a great day out.

“Huge thanks to Nicola Cunningham, depute head teacher, for co-ordinating this annual trip once again.”

Meanwhile, Taylor High said a fond farewell to two members of staff.

Senior technician Robert Stewart left after 37 years of service to the school.

And his departure signals the end of an era as he was the only remaining original member of staff from when the school opened in 1982.

As well as his using his ICT skills to keep the increasingly-complex equipment operating, he worked on many publications over the years and also directed various school shows.

Lynn Kerr, principal teacher of modern languages, also retired at the recent summer break, after serving the school for 11 years in that capacity.

In addition to developing Spanish classes, Mrs. Kerr also took part in many extra-curricular activities including Take Me Out and the school’s version of Strictly Come Dancing.

Staff and pupils wished both of the teachers long and happy retirements when they left Taylor High for the final time at the end of term.
