Cheers as gin makers named in awards shortlist
Mclean’s Gin have been celebrating after they were shortlisted for three awards at the Scottish Gin Awards.
And the nominations are extra special for the Avondale-based botanists, with two of them coming for creations with a personal touch.
They have been nominated for ‘gin liqueur of the year’ for their gooseberry and elderflower creation, The Glesart.
The Gilmourton incomers created the tasty tipple especially for the Glassford Beer and Gin Festival, and used produce from the nearby Harris Farm shop.
They also worked with local artist Mhairi Anderson to design a label for the creation, with just 55 bottles made.
And their newest creation, Something Clear, has been shortlisted for ‘high strength gin of the year’.
Released just a few weeks ago, only 352 bottles of the 50% ABV drink were created, instantly becoming a collectors’ edition gin.
Finally, they were shortlisted for ‘best marketing campaign’ for their Something Blue.
Married in Arran in June last year, the couple created the eye-catching drink for people to enjoy at their wedding – a special brew to mark a special occasion.
Just six finalists have been shortlisted in this category, including some of Scotland’s biggest names.
Head ginologist Colin Mclean (left) said: “We’re absolutely delighted to be finalists for these awards.
“A huge congratulations to all of the other finalists, too. Now to contain our excitement until October 10.”
