Maitland: We want to get as much support as possible

-

Hamilton Accies chairman Allan Maitland has invited fans to a‘forum’at the first home game of season 2019/20, against Kilmarnock.

Maitland doesn’t want to call it a ‘forum’because it isn’t as formal as that; rather, he wants supporters to visit the Mcarthur/mccarthy Suite in the main stand for a drink and a chat. If they have questions to ask, he will happily answer them.

It’s all part of a more transparent approach Allan is making, in an effort to better engage with fans and get more of them through the gates at New Douglas Park.

He said:“i think it’s time for us to start engaging with the supporters. We really need the supporters to get right behind the team.

“At the end of the season the support in the last five games after the split was fantastic. The game at Dundee, the game here against St Johnstone, it makes a massive difference... even the game when we got beat against St Mirren, the support was fantastic, they supported the players all the way through.

“The support was great, and I want to find a way of doing that this season. “We’re going to have a fans’forum, if you like, at the Kilmarnock game, the first home game of the season.

“I would like to invite fans to come along to the bar, and if they have anything they want to ask about, feel free to do so. I want to try and get as many supporters coming back to the club as we can.

“An important aspect in that is that the only way we will get more people coming to watch us is if we have a go and we’re more entertaining at home.

“I think at the end of last season, despite the fact that it was the same group of players, I think we were a wee bit more open, we certainly played to win the games, and I think that was reflected in the support.

“I hope this season that’s exactly what we do at home and I hope we get more people in, supporting the team.”
