TOWN’S SEX BEAST SHAME

Shock stats reveal dozens of perverts living among us

- STEPHEN BARK

Shocking new statistics have revealed that dozens of sex offenders are living in Hamilton.

Figures obtained under freedom of information laws show there were 32 perverts living in the town’s ML3 postcode as of April 15, 2019.

And more than 200 of the beasts were housed across the whole of South Lanarkshire.

As well as the 32 offenders living in Hamilton, another 13 were in the neighbouring ML9 postcode covering Larkhall.

In the ML8 postcode covering Carluke, there were 19 sex offenders and 29 in ML11, which includes Lanark and Lesmahagow. Strathaven’s ML10 postcode had eight sex offenders, while there were six in the G71 district for Uddingston, and three in Biggar’s ML12 district.

There were 35 in the G72 postcode district covering Blantyre and Cambuslang, while the G73 postcode district which covers Rutherglen had the largest number of sex offenders at 37.

Almost 50 live in East Kilbride and the surrounding area – 23 in the G74 postcode area to the north of the town and 25 in the G75 district to the south.

Sex offenders are monitored and managed in the community depending on the level of risk they pose to the public under the Multi-agency Public Protection

Arrangements (MAPPA) which involve the police service, local authorities, the NHS, the Scottish Prison Service and other partners.

MAPPA states that the checks undertaken will depend on the offender, but could include a physical check of the location of the house to verify its proximity to schools, nurseries, play parks, community centres and libraries.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “Police Scotland works in partnership with a number of agencies through MAPPA to ensure that all registered sex offenders are robustly managed within the community.

“Our priority, working in partnership with other organisations involved in public protection, is public safety.”

Across the region, 16 registered sex offenders breached notification requirements, including four in East Kilbride Central North, four in Rutherglen Central and North, three in Rutherglen South and one each in Avondale and Stonehouse, East Kilbride Central South, Cambuslang East, Cambuslang West and Hamilton North and East.

Breaching notification requirements can result in an offender being returned to jail.
