Free trip boost for stranded kids

-

There were smiles all round when more than 100 people from the Hamilton area got a free day out to make up for the heartbreak caused by a cancelled trip.

They lost cash totalling hundreds of pounds and missed out on a visit to Blair Drummond Safari Park after falling victim to an alleged scam.

The organiser failed to pay for coaches to take the excited youngsters and their parents to the popular attraction two weeks ago.

But Golden Eagle, who had nothing to do with the payment failure, laid on two coaches free of charge last Sunday to take all those who missed out for a big day out. “it was absolutely fantastic, ”said Burnbank woman Kerryanne Kirkwood whose family was among those let down.

“I can’t thank Golden Eagle enough for their superb gesture because the original shambles was nothing to do with them – they really had no obligation to do what they have.

“It was really kind of them and everyone is so grateful. ”golden Eagle Coaches director Ishbel Lyall said: “it was such a massive disappointment for everyone when the trip fell through and it left a load of heartbroken children.

“So, although it was nothing to do with us, we felt we wanted to do something to make it up to them. We are just happy to help and hope this gesture eased some of the pain.”

Blair Drummond Safari Park provided free entry for everyone who missed out first time round.

Park bosses also said anyone who couldn’t make last Sunday’s trip will be offered a free pass.

Hamilton Accies have also done their bit to make the youngsters smile.

They have come up with stadium tours, a safari walk, two-course meal for everyone involved plus free entry for kids to the match with Kilmarnock on August 10.

Police said a 26-year-old Hamilton woman was facing fraud charges.
