Charity hails efforts of volunteer team
The Haven Blantyre hosted a special strawberry tea for their volunteers, to thank them for all they do.
They have always been at the heart of the charity’s work, providing informal support and a friendly, caring ‘listening ear’.
And the strawberry tea – which was held during National Volunteers Week – was a chance for the staff to show their appreciation to the volunteers who give up their time each week.
Each volunteer was presented with a certificate, card and plant as a small token of appreciation.
Lyndsey-anne Fleming, Haven volunteer co-ordinator, said: “Our volunteers are an amazing array of people with many different skills, personal experiences and talents, all of which have given them a wonderful relationship with our clients who really appreciate the support they provide
“Having a special strawberry tea is our way of showing our appreciation for the dedication and kindness our volunteers provide to so many.”
Duncan Kane, a Haven volunteer, said: “Volunteers were treated to a wonderful spread, of sandwiches, cakes, strawberries, and a chocolate fountain, although we had to keep being reminded not to make our own tea!
“It was lovely to be recognised for our efforts and to have staff make a fuss of us, however being a volunteer at The Haven is already rewarding enough. It was a humbling day.”
Meanwhile, The Haven also hosted their annual afternoon tea in The Parkville, Blantyre.
Supporters from across Lanarkshire and beyond enjoyed good food, friends and entertainment. Sandwiches, scones, shopping and singing were all part of the event which raised over £2000.
Lynsay Cooper, communications officer at The Haven said: “It was a pleasure to host the afternoon tea once again and see a blend of old and new supporters attending. Haven staff, volunteers and a team from First Direct Hamilton supported the event and ensured guests had a wonderful experience.
“The monies raised on the day will go directly to supporting families facing the challenges of life-limiting illness in this community.”
The Haven is a registered charity providing support to people affected by a range of life-limiting illnesses and to their family members and carers across North and South Lanarkshire, through its centres in Blantyre, Wishaw and Forth.
