A LESSON LEARNED

Easty reckons Accies will take positives from cup slip

Brian Easton says Hamilton must learn lessons from their Betfred Cup crash against Queen’s Park.

The returning defender says everybody at the club was disappointed not to take three points from the League Two side, but said it’s important to take something from the game.

Accies were due to play their second Group F game away to Clyde at Stenhousemuir’s Ochilview last night (Wednesday) and Easton hopes they will have done enough to emerge from the group if they can beat Partick Thistle at home on Saturday.

Easton, who signed for a second permanent spell in the summer after leaving St Johnstone, said: “I think there are a few lessons to be learned. It wasn’t the result we wanted and it was a bit frustrating, but we can learn from things.

“On a couple of occasions one ball beat us too easily over the top. As a back three we need to look at that and hope to rectify it so it doesn’t happen too often.

“I think maybe we just looked a bit sluggish and that’s probably one for the staff to look at and see if there’s any reason for that, because it’s hard to pinpoint, but overall I think it’s just a bit disappointing.

“We should have done better, but credit to Queen’s Park, I thought they set up really well and they played well.

“But overall I think we should have done better ourselves and we’re disappointed not to win. Something that the gaffer is driving into us is that even in the friendlies he wants to win, he wants to win everything, and that’s the attitude we need to have as well.

“We are like that, so not to come away with the win is disappointing, but it’s early doors so we just need to win our next games in the group to make sure we qualify.”

Easton went on: “We had five new players playing in the team on Saturday, so it might take a bit of time to gel, but we want to get that done as quickly as possible so that we can get started and get winning.”

Easton, 31, was at Hamilton from 2006-09, before leaving for Burnley, and said it’s good to be back.

He said: “The boys are brilliant here, it’s a great bunch of lads, and good characters. It’s not hard to find your feet here and get going. It has been brilliant, I have thoroughly enjoyed being back.”
