Express route to more misery on the roads

-

Lanarkshire commuters are getting set for more roadworks misery this summer.

The A725 East Kilbride Expressway is about to undergo resurfacing work at Douglas Street, near High Blantyre.

And the road will be closed eastbound for a full weekend.

Scotland Transerv, on behalf of Transport Scotland, will begin the resurfacing on Friday, August 9, at 8pm and the road will re-open on Monday, August 12, at 6am.

Roads bosses say that in order to complete these necessary works as quickly and safely as possible, they will need to implement the weekend closure of the eastbound carriageway.

Tony Chambers, Scotland Transerv’s project design lead on the resurfacing programme said: “Scotland Transerv has been working in consultation with the local authority, emergency services and key stakeholders to schedule these works for minimal impact on commuters and businesses using this busy route each day.

“This important programme will see the resurfacing of approximately 700m of carriageway, between Douglas Street and the A725 junction with the B7012.

“Our inspections have identified that the carriageway is in need of repair, and implementing a weekend road closure is the most efficient and least disruptive way to complete these works.”

Local diversions will be in place throughout. Access will be maintained for emergency service vehicles, although we would still advise that they exercise caution through the work site.

Drivers are asked to allow additional time for their journeys.

Live trunk road updates are available by visiting trafficscotland.org, or by following @trafficscotland on Twitter.

Further diversion information is available on the Scotland Transerv website.

This investment into the A725 is one of a number of such programmes being carried out by Scotland Transerv across South West Scotland, supporting the economic growth and development of the area.
