The Unpaid Work Service also benefits communities in that it helps with the rehabilitation of people who have, for whatever reason, gone down the wrong path in life.
Some of those taking part are experiencing working life for the first time, giving them the confidence to look for work and new skills to let them contribute.
John said: “It is great to see the difference in people during the time they spend in here, and you have great hope that they can go back and play a better part in their communities than perhaps they have done in the past.
“However, to make this work, we need there to be work to give them. We can always find them something to do but if there is something like the laundry service, that will let them roll up their sleeves and put in a good hard shift, then thy get a real sense of achievement and it also helps local people who really need it.
“That is why we will be more than happy to be contacted by anyone who thinks they need our help.”

The University of the West of Scotland (UWS) has been named on a prestigious league table outlining the world’s best young universities.
It is the top-ranked higher education institution in Scotland and within the 101150 division on The Young University Rankings by the Times Higher Education (THE).
UWS has a new campus based at Hamilton International Technology Park, which opened to students last year.
Professor Craig Mahoney, principal and vice-chancellor at UWS, said: “We are particularly pleased to see that we continue to rank as the top Scottish university in the THE Young University Rankings, which also sees us ranked joint fourth in the UK this year.
