Law firm takes steps to help Marie Curie

- SHIRLEY BARTYNEK

A team of big-hearted walkers from a Hamilton law firm have raised more than £2000 for charity.

Colleagues from Scullion Law, in the town’s Cadzow Street, completed Glasgow’s 23-mile Kiltwalk.

And the £2501 they raised for local charities will be topped up by 40 per cent thanks to the Tom Hunter Foundation.

Nicholas Scullion, managing director of Scullion LAW, said: “What a special day everyone had walking alongside 13,000 others to raise money for causes close to our hearts.

“We hope to make a positive difference to the lives of others in the local community and beyond.”

Liz Semple, Sarah Monaghan and Emma Wright from Scullion LAW walked 23 miles in aid of Marie Curie Scotland to help their nurses provide more care – at home and in the hospices in Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Marie Curie is Scullion LAW’S charity of the year and the firm recently presented a cheque for £767 to the local Marie Curie fundraising team. This will also be toped up by 40 per cent from the Tom Hunter Foundation.

In addition to this Diana Mcleish, of Scullion’s, raised over £809 for the Catherine Mcewan Foundation to help improve the lives of people living with inflammatory bowel disease such as Crohn’s and colitis. The top-up from Sir Tom Hunter took the total to over £1000.

Meanwhile, Gordon Lennox, from Scullion LAW, walked 23 miles, raising £775 on behalf of Classrooms in Malawi in memory of his close friend Katie Allan who supported this charity. Again, this will be topped up by 40 per cent thanks to Sir Tom Hunter.

Diana also took part in aid of Oxfam, in memory of the Easter Sunday attacks in Sri Lanka.

She said: “I managed to raise £158, which again will receive additional donations from the Hunter Foundation.

“So, together we are very proud to have made a positive difference to the lives of others.

“We are committed to the community and beyond.

“Every penny makes a positive difference to the lives of others and we encourage more and more of the local community to sign up to the Kiltwalk 2020. There are various levels, so give some thought for something that matters most to you.”
