Over 100 children and adults who were let down by an alleged con woman earlier this summer are set for a fun-filled day courtesy of Hamilton Accies Football Club.

The heartbroken families lost cash totalling hundreds of pounds and missed out on a visit to Blair Drummond Safari Park after falling victim to a reported scam.

The organiser is alleged to have failed to pay for coaches to take the excited youngsters and their parents to the popular attraction last month.

But, Hamilton Accies have since invited the entire group along to see their side take on Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership this Saturday.

Included in the day will be a two-course meal in the club’s James Mccarthy and Mcarthur suite, a tour of the stadium, the chance to be among the first to sample the soon-to-be-opened safari walk, gifts for the children and a free ticket for Accies 2019/20 campaign as a token gesture.

Hamilton Accies commercial manager Steven Crowe told the Advertiser: “We heard all about the families who had been let down by the Safari Park scam and it was clear that these families had been left utterly disappointed and indeed out of pocket.

“To be honest there is too much badness going on within families in our community, and with us being a club who is all about community and helping others we felt that the very least we could do is to help put a smile on the children’s faces by offering them a day at Hamilton Academical Football Club.

“It is a pleasure and honour for us to help the families, without any cost to them and we hope they have a fabulous day.”

A fortnight ago coach firm Golden Eagle, who had nothing to do with the payment failure, laid on two buses free of charge to take all those who missed out for a big day out.

Blair Drummond Safari Park also provided free entry for everyone who missed out first time round.

And Park bosses offered anyone who couldn’t make the trip a free pass.

Police said a 26-year-old Hamilton woman was facing fraud charges.
