Hamilton curry king scoops top takeaway award

-

A Hamilton business has beaten off competition from hundreds of takeaways to be crowned Restaurant Takeaway of the Year 2019.

Despite fierce competition, Mushtaqs Restaurant, on Almada Street, scooped the title and brought the trophy home to Hamilton.

Representatives of the best takeaways in Scotland gathered on Tuesday, July 30, at Marriott Hotel, Glasgow, to celebrate their achievements.

The Scottish Takeaway Awards 2019 provided a great opportunity to showcase those who performed well over the past year and are considered the best choice by the public.

Chef director Ajmal Mushtaq said:“there are two groups who deserve all the credit.

“Firstly, my wonderful team, who agonize over the details of every single order. Their passion, commitment and hard work is truly awesome and I am so proud to be on the same team as them. They are the best.”

Ajmal continued: “Secondly, our amazing customers from all over Hamilton and Lanarkshire.

“You have supported us for 47 years. My father started this business in 1973 and it is still going strong nearly half a century later. We will continue do our very best for you. Thank you so much for your love and support.”

Mushtaqs, based on Almada Street, recently featured on BBC 2 Best of British Takeaways as they have grown to be the biggest takeaway operation in Britain.

They were also featured on BBC 2 programme‘who Should Get to Stay in the UK’ where the challenges of this growing business were showcased.

The awards also celebrated top establishments that strive to be different.

They commended those who deliver great food to their customers in a timely manner, making it easier to enjoy their delicious meal all the while in the comfort of their homes.

Irfan Younis, CEO of Creative Oceanic said: “This industry has grown massively over the past years and we aimed to seek out, reward and thank those who have managed to make a real difference by serving fantastic food, using the best of ingredients.

“The winners are an outstanding example of excellence whose dedication to be the best has made them stand out among the rest.

“We would like to congratulate all finalists and winners for their amazing achievements.”

Mushtaqs Restaurant beat off competition from 30,000 restaurants and takeaways to be crowned the Just Eat Best Takeaway in Britain at the Asian Curry Awards last year.

Head chef Ajmal has also previously been crowned Scotland’s chef of the year at the Food Awards Scotland where he beat off competition from the best finedining and Michelin-trained chefs in the country.
