Top of the class after visit to school from inspectors
Celebration at Stteresa’s
Pupils, parents and staff at St Teresa’s Primary and Nursery Class were celebrating after their school was praised by inspectors.
In February 2019, a team of inspectors from Education Scotland visited and talked to parents/carers and children and worked closely with the staff.
Michelle O’halleron, head teacher, said: “We are really pleased with our inspection report, particularly the recognition of our positive ethos, shared values and commitment to ensuring every child feels valued, included and supported to reach their full potential.
“I would like to thank staff, pupils, parents and the wider school community for their continued support and reassure them that we will continue to strive to provide all children with the best possible educational opportunities.”
The inspection team found the following strengths in the primary school’s work:
■The head teacher’s very strong and caring leadership. This is having a positive effect on the wellbeing of children, staff, parents and partners. It is also leading to all members of the school community being empowered to take forward and contribute to key aspects of school improvement.
■The nurturing, highly-inclusive ethos in the nursery and at the primary stages, which enables all children to learn successfully and feel a strong sense of belonging.
■This is supported by shared values and extremely positive relationships across the school community.
■The outstanding, inclusive support which is offered to children at the primary stages, particularly those who require significant additional support with their learning.
■Teachers and support assistants are creative in using targeted interventions very well to meet children’s needs.
Miss O’halleron, added: “We have worked hard to create a strong community and to build positive relationships and to create a strategic plan to build capacity through empowerment.
“This focus on empowerment, at all levels, has enabled us to maximise our use of time and resources, raise attainment and secure sustainable improvement in outcomes for children and families.”
