Junior Football Round-up Rovers secure top spot with six goal win

A thumping 6-0 win at home to Maryhill saw Carluke Rovers soar to the top of the Mcbookie.com West League One.

Mark Weir put them ahead in 14 minutes with a well-placed shot from inside the box, and six minutes later Paul Donaghy crossed for Ciaran Lafferty to head into the net.

Sean Mckenna saw a shot tipped over the bar early in the second half as Rovers tried to put the game to bed.

Their third goal came in 56 minutes though when Mark Weir spotted a gap at the left post and fired a free kick into the corner.

Craig Grierson put Rovers 4-0 in front in 70 minutes, latching onto a poor clearance and outpacing some Maryhill players before slotting into the net.

Connor Mcdonald headed in a Mckenna corner for goal number five, and Lafferty added the sixth, running onto a pass on the right before slotting past the goalkeeper.

Lesmahagow kept pace with Rovers at the top of the table with a 4-2 win over Royal Albert.

Albert took the lead through an Allan Campbell penalty in 15 minutes, and after Paul Woodlock equalised from a corner, the visitors regained their lead through Campbell from a Simon Eeles pass.

Kris Jarvie drew Lesmahagow level in 55 minutes, and seven minutes later Jack Baptie headed past his own goalkeeper to put ’Gow in front.

Jon Mcstay pounced on a defensive error to seal the points in 83 minutes.

Larkhall Thistle’s 4-3 win at Girvan put them fourth in the pile.
