It takes place at 7.30pm on Monday, August 19, at the Indoor Bowling Club, Coatdyke, Coatbridge.

All serving and retired sappers are welcome along to the evening. The Haven was the grateful charity of choice for a memorial tournament held at Strathclyde Bowling Club.

It was played in memory of Cathie Lennon, a popular member of the Hamilton club who also volunteered at the Blantyre charity for over a decade.

Blantyre woman passed away back in October of last year, and her family wanted to do something to raise money for a great cause.

The event was organised by her son John and made £832 for The Haven, which will go directly to supporting families in the area who are affected by life-limiting illness.

June Sutherland, service manager at The Haven, said: “Setting up a tournament in Cathie’s memory was such a very special thing to do and the turnout on the day and the number of teams taking part from all the different clubs is a testament to what an incredibly special person she was, and how much she was respected and loved by everyone that knew her.

“The fact that John and his sister Michelle won the first year’s tournament and lifted the cup made it even more special.

“The Haven was very fortunate to have Cathie as a volunteer for over ten years and she continues to be remembered fondly

“We are completely reliant on fundraising and donations in order to keep our support and services going.

“We are so thankful to John and the Lennon family for putting on this event in aid of The Haven.”

John added: “It meant so much to us to be able to run this event in aid of The Haven, a very special place that meant so much to my mum.

“The work they do in the local community to support families at a time when they need it most is so important and I know mum would be so proud that we have been able to do this and raise so much in her memory.”
