Beautiful Scotland judges head to Bonnie Blantyre
Community groups in Blantyre were delighted to welcome judges from the Keep Scotland Beautiful’s Beautiful Scotland competition to the town last week.
For the second year, Bonnie Blantyre has entered the town into the national competition.
The judges were treated to a presentation from,‘bonnie Bee’, before speaking to a range of individuals and groups that have been doing their bit to keep Blantyre bonnie.
High Blantyre Primary School were also able to share the wonderful things they’ve been doing in partnership with Bonnie Blantyre and Friends of the Calder in a bid to give the judges a real feel for what makes Blantyre so special.
And a tour of Blantyre meant the judges were able to see the town’s bonnie floral displays.
They also visited the Calder and the newly-created community orchard, on Huntshill Road, before stopping off at the wonderful community garden, Tenants Association Coatshill Thornhill (TACT) Healthy Park.
Before the tour was over, the judges popped into Gavin Watson Printers.
The business offers support to community groups throughout the area and the judges were able to get an understanding and insight from them as to why it’s important to them to play their part in keeping Blantyre bonnie.
A spokeswoman for Bonnie Blantyre said:“while Bonnie Blantyre entered the town into the competition, the entry was as a result of many of the wonderful community groups that exist in Blantyre.
“Blantyre is a town full of wonderful individuals, groups and businesses and it was looking at its best on judging day, thanks to the support from land services at South Lanarkshire Council.
“We hope our entry shows the amazing kindness and community spirit that exists in Blantyre.”
