It’s one for the scrap book at Trust Jack

-

‘Waste not, want not’ was the motto as children at Stonehouse’s Trust Jack Foundation took part in a fourweek project, creating outfits, hats and accessories out of scrap material and old clothes.

‘Scrap Fashion’ culminated in a fashion show where the children were able to show family and friends all their hard work.

The project was part of the charity’s summer programme.

Helen Mitchell from the charity said: “What a fantastic night the fashion show was, all the girls were amazing.

“The Scrap Fashion project was aimed at building confidence and self-esteem.

“We had seven girls who designed and made their own outfits out of old clothes, curtains and scrap materials. The girls did a fantastic job and made four outfits each.

“On the last night we had a fashion show to show their family and friends what we had been doing.

“Some of the girls were very anxious about doing the fashion show in front of people, but they all did it.

“They were all so proud of themselves and we were very proud of them as well.

“Some of them were out of their comfort zone, but they faced their fears.

“The kids had a ball – they all went home wearing their outfits.”

The Trust Jack Foundation would like to thank all the volunteers who gave up their own time to help with the project, who were Janet Walsh, Karen Harding, Suzie Thompson, Christine Blackwood.

Darren Mitchell from Spex and Chex DJS provided music and lights, Gary Sands who was their photographer for the evening, Morgan Muirhead was make-up artist, and Sammi Mitchell, who was hair stylist.

They would also like to thank Semichem for donating all the make-up and accessories for the girls.

Trust Jack Foundation at New Street, Stonehouse, is a non-profit organisation which exists to help support young people who have been identified as either suffering from a mental health illness or who are high risk of suffering from mental illness, and their parents, family members, guardians or carers.

They do this through youth groups and clubs, help people to understand their illness, what they should do, and where they should go to for help.

The Trust Jack Foundation was set up in memory of Jack Hastie, who suffered from adolescent depression but went under the radar, and sadly took his own life aged just 18. They raise funds to support young people in their recovery.
