Leaving a legacy will help charities

-

Blantyre-based The Haven have launched a new campaign which aims to increase awareness of the importance of legacies to the work of the charity.

This is the first campaign of its kind from The Haven, and will focus on why legacy-giving can make such a huge difference. A legacy is a gift that you can leave in your will.

After you have taken care of your family and loved ones, you may wish to leave a gift in your will to a charity that holds a special place in your heart and create a legacy that will support future generations.

Karen Boyd, community engagement co-ordinator at The Haven said:“you may not know this but many charities wouldn’t be able to continue without the gifts they are left in wills. By remembering your chosen charity in this way, you are ensuring that the good work they do is able to be carried on for years to come.

“The gift you leave can be anything you wish, no matter the size of donation every single penny counts. We understand that friends and family will always come first but by leaving a gift in your will you are leaving your legacy.

“We rely on the support of the communities we work in so would like to give this information out to give people the chance to be able to help us to ensure we can continue to support as many families as possible affected by a life limiting illness.

“Leaving a gift to The Haven in your will is a valuable and meaningful way to ensure that future generations will be supported through life-limiting illness.

“As more and more people across Lanarkshire and beyond are diagnosed with a life-limiting illness, The Haven will only grow and we must ensure that we can continue to provide our programme of support which helps individuals cope with the physical, emotional and practical aspects of their illness and to enable them to face the future positively and with hope.”

The Haven has put together an information leaflet which contains all the information you need to know about legacy giving to allow you to make an informed decision. They advise that this is not something that should be taken lightly and should be given a lot of thought. The leaflet also outlines the promise The Haven will make to anyone who decides to leave a legacy to the charity.
