Sparkling success for jewellery maker Romany

-

A Blantyre bespoke jewellery maker has been selected to exhibit her work with the Incorporation of Goldsmiths.

Romany Starrs, who has a design studio in Hamilton, will take her jewellery to the Elements exhibition at the Lyon and Turnbull auction houses in Edinburgh during November.

The Incorporation of Goldsmiths are a non-profit organisation set up by Royal Charter in 1867.

And the Elements exhibition showcases the work of 50 talented makers from across the UK.

On the back of this, Harvey Nicholls then hand-selected Romany and a further seven designers to showcase their work at their Edinburgh store throughout August during the world’s largest arts festival. The Fringe.

Romany said:“i was absolutely delighted to learn that I had been selected to exhibit at the Lyon and Turnbull auction houses in November, and then to find out that Harvey Nicholls wanted me to have a pop-up showcase in their worldrenowned store was the icing on the cake.

“They have selected makers like myself who adopt an ethical approach to making their work. This is the first time they have chosen new jewellery designers to show their work in the Edinburgh store, and I’m delighted to have been selected for such a fantastic opportunity.”

Romany, 44, is a working mum with four children who started making jewellery when she was just 15-years-old after a trip to India.

She added:“after returning from India I went on to study jewellery design for three years before leaving to have a family.

“I started making jewellery again after having my fourth baby and then returned to finish my studies in 2014, gaining an honours degree in jewellery design and manufacture after a ten-year gap in my studies.

“I love what I do and I’m delighted to be taking this next step with both Harvey Nicholls and the exhibition.”
