Cash boost to benefit Stonehouse

Organisati­ons and groups within Stonehouse were on Monday given their share of a £5000 Renewable Energies Grant from South Lanarkshir­e Council, via Stonehouse Community Council.

Each of the 10 groups pocketed £500 to be used for projects throughout the village.

Those benefiting from the cash windfall were:

Stonehouse Girls’brigade, to be put towards their Duke of Edinburgh Awards.

Stonehouse Guides, for the erection of trefoil in the park, and a community event.

Friends of Stonehouse Park, for the purchase of a gazebo for events.

Friends of Stonehouse Scouting, for improvemen­ts to an outdoor space at their scout hall.

Stonehouse Male Voice Choir, to be put towards the purchase of uniforms.

Strathaven Gala Group, to be put towards the cost of running the gala day.

Stonehouse Business Associatio­n, to be used for printing costs for a buy local voucher scheme.

Stonehouse Agricultur­al Society, to be put towards the cost of a marquee.

Stonehouse Men’s Shed, to be put towards a planning applicatio­n for work at premises, after South Lanarkshir­e Council grant premises.

Stonehouse Brighter Village, for the purchase of poly tunnels, to work with the Trust Jack Foundation.

Robert Freel, Stonehouse Community Council secretary, is delighted with the news and he told the Advertiser:“we were pleased to be provided with £5000 from South Lanarkshir­e Council’s Renewable Energy Fund for distributi­on as micro grants of up to £5000 to local community organisati­ons.

“Following a call for applicatio­ns, 10 organisati­ons were awarded £500 each for their respective projects, which will all benefit the village.”
